When we think of a smile makeover, we're really not thinking about what age is best to do it at. Rather, we think about how to create the best possible smile for the patient of a certain age. There's really no recipe when it's best to do cosmetic reconstruction or smile design. It really depends on the patient's condition and their desire to improve certain parts of their smile or to recreate the whole smile altogether. And so we look at how to customize our approach to each and every patient's condition. A good candidate for a smile makeover is truly somebody who is either interested in brightening their smile and bringing their best alignment to their teeth. To uh people who have unfortunate situation where the teeth are broken down or worn down and they desire to rebuild their smile to their original shape and contours. Whatever the goal is, it has to look natural. It has to look not done and it has to look very aligned with the patient's face, their natural aesthetics, with the colors of their face, proportions of their face, the eyes. It all has to come together as a beautiful package.
Laser dentistry provides an alternative to a conventional dentistry with handpiece and a drill. In our office, we have two different kinds of lasers. We have diode lasers and CO2 laser. Laser dentistry can be utilized in a variety of procedures from dental cleanings to treatment of periodontal disease to a simple cavities, larger restorations to soft tissue treatment like a recontouring of the gums. Also, laser dentistry in our practice is used to treat snoring and help people with the airways. Laser dentistry offers us the most comfortable way of doing dentistry. Dentistry that does not require a lot of healing time after treatment and dentistry that can be done often times without even local anesthetic.
Dr. Manyak, she had a plan. She knew the steps how we were going to get to where I am now. Her vision got me there. I have to go all the way back to 1990. I had a tumor in my mouth. 8 weeks of radiation after the surgery. They told me that my teeth would eventually start to fail. You know, many years later, I started losing a tooth a year and it got worse and worse. Towards the end, I was in constant pain, couldn't eat. This was at the start of the pandemic. I only had two teeth left. She started off with cleaning care, keeping me in the best shape I could. I didn't want dentures. I wanted something that I could go to sleep in, wake up with. She shepherded me along every step of the way. Things were explained. There was nothing I didn't know. And then the day came where I got my implants. Dr. Manyak was there in the office when she holds up the mirror for the first time and you have a smile to not be in pain to be able to chew food and laugh and have a life. I thank her every day.
Previously, I was going to another dental office. I wasn't getting the proper care. Whenever I wanted to reschedule, I had to wait months out. I ended up coming in and ever since then, I've enjoyed coming to the dentist. The membership plan here is probably one of my favorite things here. It covers pretty much a year's worth of services, cleaning, stuff like that. Any other treatment that you get, they offer discount over here. You're a patient, but I feel like a family member. They provided headphones for me to listen to the type of music I like to listen to. So I don't hear the drilling or whatever is going on. I was probably sitting in the chair for an hour or two and they took care of me. Nothing ever hurt. Anyone that has anxiety coming here that can definitely be thrown out the window cuz they will take care of you. You can't meet one person in the office and not have a great experience with them. It's amazing. I'm definitely going to come here until the day I die.
I think they're the most kind people.You always get a very warm welcome when you come into the office. I've experienced it for the last 25 years that I come in or I call and it's always like, "Hey, how's it going? What's going on?" I'm a type 1 diabetic which affects my gum tissues. So, I've had seven extractions. Maniac does my maintenance. Uh but they also built a bridge for me and now they're doing implants now. I just had five implants done and I'm waiting for those to heal. So, she's been kind of the guiding force and saying, you know, you need to go to this person for this and this person for this and then always circling back and, you know, she'll always call and say, "How are you doing?" And, you know, which is what I really appreciate, especially after I have some, you know, extraction or something. You don't really get that service very often. I could go to a dentist a little bit closer than I am. I don't think I would get the same treatment, the same care that I would get. I mean, I'll come here the rest of my life.
So, I've had a lot of treatments because I've been coming here for 20 years. The most recent, I'd say the biggest is that I had some veneers put into my front teeth. I've had Invisalign. I've had crowns, teeth cleanings, cavities, whitening, everything that you can imagine. Coming into it, I always have anxiety and that's just embred in my DNA. But Dr. Manyak always explains the procedures ahead of time so I know what to expect. The office staff also does wonderful things like gives me warm blankets and gives me lavender cloths. And I'd have to say the best thing is that Dr. Manyak's dog Bailey will come and sit in my lap and be my little emotional support dog through some of the procedures. I feel like the veneers look very natural. That was one of the things we talked about going into it. And to know that I still had my smile but only better just gave me the confidence I had needed that I was lacking before.
