One of the best parts of practicing in San Mateo for more than 25 years is seeing familiar faces come back with new family members. We’ve cared for children who are now adults, and families who have trusted us across three generations. I don’t take that trust lightly.
Your family’s dental needs will change over time. The child who needs a gentle introduction to the dental chair, the adult trying to fit a crown into a busy week, and the grandparent who wants to keep eating comfortably all deserve care that makes sense for them. That’s what family dentistry means to me: getting to know the person in the chair and staying with them through the years.
What does family dental care look like for kids?
For a child, a good dental visit begins with feeling safe. We take time to meet your little one, explain what we’re doing in words they can understand, and help them get comfortable with the sights and sounds of the office. I want them to learn that asking questions is always okay.
We care for children from infancy onward, so you can bring us questions about those first teeth as well as concerns that come up later. As kids grow, we focus on prevention and help them build habits they can carry into adulthood. When treatment is needed, we talk with you about the options and your child’s comfort. For some procedures, our Solea laser allows us to work more quietly and may reduce the need for drilling or numbing injections. Whether it’s appropriate depends on the treatment and your child’s needs.
What should adults expect from a family dentist?
Adult dental care can cover a lot of ground. You may be coming in for a routine cleaning, a concern you’ve been putting off, or a smile change you’ve been thinking about for years. We’ll start by listening to what matters to you, then take a thorough look and explain what we find.
I care about results that look good and function well. That might mean helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums, planning a restoration, or talking through cosmetic options. And if you need a crown or onlay, our CEREC technology lets us design and make many restorations during the same visit. That can save you a return trip and the time spent wearing a temporary.
You’ll know why I’m recommending treatment before we begin any treatment. If there’s more than one path available, we’ll discuss those options together as a team.
Does a family dentist care for seniors, too?
Absolutely. We welcome older adults at Manyak Dental Group, including people who have been with us for decades and those who are looking for a new dental home. Our practice is Age-Friendly Certified, reflecting the attention we give to making care comfortable and accessible at every stage of life.
For some patients, the priority is maintaining the teeth and dental work they already have. Others want to talk about gum health, a changing bite, or options for replacing missing teeth. We offer care that ranges from preventive visits to dentures and dental implants, and we tailor the conversation to your health, comfort, and goals. So if you’re helping a parent or grandparent find a dentist, we’d love to get to know them and hear what matters most to them. And if they’d like you there for support, you’re always welcome and encouraged to join the conversation.
Can dental technology make a visit more comfortable?
That’s the reason we invest in it. Our laser can make certain treatments quieter and, in many cases, reduce the need for numbing injections. When we need a more detailed view for diagnosis or implant planning, cone beam CT gives us a three-dimensional image to help guide our decisions. And with CEREC, many custom crowns can be completed in one appointment.
I’m happy to show you what we’re seeing and explain why a particular tool would help. Technology should make your care clearer and more comfortable, and you should always know how it fits into your treatment plan.
What if someone in your family feels anxious about the dentist?
Please tell us. Some patients haven’t been to a dentist in years because a previous experience left them uneasy. Others are nervous about a specific procedure or worried about what we might find. You can talk to us about any of it without judgment.
We’ll go at a pace that helps you feel informed and comfortable. And if a little extra support would help, you can ask about Bailey, our office comfort dog. She’s available upon request to keep you company during a visit. And of course, we’re equally happy to arrange a pet-free experience.
We’re also here when an unexpected dental problem comes up. If you or someone in your family is in pain or has injured a tooth, call us. We offer same-day emergency appointments when available so we can assess the problem and help you find relief.
How do we make the cost of family dental care clearer?
I know dental treatment can be a significant expense, especially when you’re planning care for more than one person. Before we perform a procedure, we’ll explain the recommendation and the cost so you can make an informed choice. You can ask about alternatives, timing, and what fits your budget. There’s no pressure to decide before you understand your options.
Manyak Dental Group is an out-of-network practice. Our team can review your benefits and file insurance claims on your behalf. We also offer membership options and CareCredit financing, and we’ll help you understand which options may apply to your care.
